Read this waaaaay too late but it could have not been anymore timely. I am deeply encouraged by this post, Erica! I can't begin to explain how much.

Just my two cents on the free videos that you provide, I totally agree with you that it shouldn't hurt those who hold paid workshops. I think there are two types of calligraphy enthusiasts. There are self-learners (like myself) who totally appreciate all the available online resources and there are those who needs a physical presence--somebody right in front of them who will show them and teach them what to do. For the latter, the paid workshops does a lot of help!

As for the guild, I haven't seen any! I agree that we should have one though.

Perfect!! Thanks for Link!! I have No Idea how to vectorize Anything... I don't have Illustrater, I DO have photoshop and I know how to use actions!! This is Great!!

I usually just digitize, not vectorize, my brush calligraphy, since I mostly do small-sized artworks for print and the web only.

What I do is make sure that I do my brush calligraphy on a neat, white paper and then scan it at 600dpi. I play with the brightness and contrast afterwards in Photoshop to even out the white background. And then I use the heaven-sent BACKGROUND REMOVER ACTION  that I downloaded from here . It's really good especially if you like to keep the transparency/translucency of some strokes. It's also great when you're digitizing watercolor.

Wow! Thank you for the written-in-calligraphy welcome! Mabuti naman ako (I'm good).

Yes, I can say that it is still popular here in the Philippines. One of the major bookstores here hosts events almost regularly and people do flock in the brush pens' and calligraphy tools' booths still. Workshops hosted by various Filipino calligraphers are still many and ongoing too!

How about you Inky Fingers? Kumusta and from where are you?

Wow! Thanks for a lot for this. The process you shared is definitely a lot less tedious than what I currently do. I think following yours can save me a lot of time. I wish I'd seen this sooner!
