Hello, Nora! I visited Nice a decade ago now (how time flies!); lovely city. As Erica said, your site is a great place for me to review my French.  ;)

Bonnie journée!

Erica, thank you!  ;D Your posts are certainly inspiring me to try new things calligraphy-wise. Any cupcake and ice cream ideas will be appreciated, too, though that's more appropriate in another venue.  Hah.

Hi, Erica. I have been getting similar comments regarding my baked goods. Hah. Fast friends indeed!

Yes, I have family in the Philippines, but they are all okay. They live around Manila which was not affected by the typhoon. Thank you for asking. The situation is heartbreaking; I cannot even begin to imagine how much worse and more complex the situation is on the ground from what we see in the news.

Thank you for your kind words about my work. It means a lot coming from you!

Tools & Supplies / Re: My Favorite Nibs for Pointed Pen

I prefer the Zebra G to the Nikko as I find I have to exert so much more effort when using the Nikko G. I'm getting used to the Leonardt Principal as well, and Brause 66EF is a go-to, especially for copperplate. The best by far are vintage nibs which I really try to use for as long as I can before discarding as I hate to see my supply dwindle little by little. Hah.
Thanks for suggesting the Brause 511, Lisa, I will try that!

What a great idea - sprinkling glitter gouache. Thanks for the tip!

Hi, Joy!

I mentioned this in my intro just now but I'm saying it again - thanks for letting us know about this forum on Instagram! I enjoy looking at all your photos, not just the calligraphy (which is beautiful).

Cheers,

H, everyone!

My name is Eileen Gustafson, and I'm so glad I joined this forum - thanks to Joy for mentioning on Instagram! I moved to Chicago in July, and lived in San Francisco before that. I moved to the US a couple of years ago from Hong Kong where I worked, but I was born and raised in the Philippines. (Whew, that was a mouthful. Hah)

I've always loved letters, and was always known among friends and classmates growing up for my (then) beautiful handwriting. When I moved to the US, I decided to take advantage of the many avenues to learn calligraphy. It has been more than a year, and an online class, a few in-person classes, and several workshops later, I am deep down the rabbit hole and have no desire to get out. Aside from all the beautiful work, I am struck by how wonderful and welcoming the calligraphy community is.

This forum is so helpful to everyone: thank you, Erica.

Cheers from now-cold-and-it-will-only-get-colder Chicago,
Eileen
