Show & Tell / My new work ON GLASS installation!!:)
« on: May 12, 2014, 03:18:38 PM »
Hi,

I'm so exited to share this new work with you all!

This is a project that I got to collaborate with a world famous glass artist.  I did donor names on the glass using a pentel watercolor brush I loaded with sumi ink, and used a Copic brush tip marker.  The project was designed and created by Therman Statom and installed at a new Children's Respite Center in Omaha.

Thanks for sharing my excitement!!

Open Flourish | General Discussion / Calligraphy on glass anyone?

Hi,

I am privileged to have the opportunity to do calligraphy on glass - adding donor names to an installation by a very well known glass artist in town.  I am not set yet on exactly what medium to use or tools.

He is toying with the idea of sandblasting some names or silkscreening.  I'm not sure how that would work yet.  But I had to ask my fellow calligraphers here, if any of you have experience writing on glass and what medium do you use.

I did call Paper Ink Arts and the gal said paint markers - I've not used them.  I did try a Copic marker with a brush tip which is permanent on one of his glass vases and it turned out quite nice.  I may be using a variety of colors.  I bought a few nice pointed brushes for the project but they seem too flexible.

I am headed to his studio tomorrow to get down to business:)

Thanks!

Jenny

Hi,

My name is Jenny Waltemath.  I feel like I have found another home:)

I am a self taught calligrapher and similiar to Erica's story, I have loved it since I was very young.  I practiced my first exemplars with the Schaeffer pen as well.  Then discovered wonderful calligraphy books at the library and spent many hours practicing.

I was able to attend my first ever calligraphy conference this last summer at The Summit in Colorado Springs!  It was truly a life altering experience.  I had my first class with Yves Leterme (all time favorites for many years!) and second class with Jake Weideman (what's not to love about that guy!).
I was very intimidated at first.  But they both gave me very encouraging remarks and felt an amazing boost to my calligraphy skills!!

Can't wait to learn more!!

Thanks,

Jenny Waltemath
