Having a pen in my hand for the very first time..
« on: January 13, 2016, 09:59:18 AM »
Hi there,

just wanted to post some doodles online from the first time I touched this oblique pen. I just received my ordered things today, I'm just still waiting for my book by Eleanor Winters and my boyfriend who brings me new cartridges for my printer so I can print out the guidelines.

I've ordered different nibs and I wanted to know how they feel on the paper. I've ordered the Tachikawa G, the Nikko G, the Zebra G and  the Brause Steno nibs. I liked the Zebra G and the Brause Steno, i didn't liked the two other very much. I feels like they scrape the paper. I've ordered the Rhodia lined and unlined pads.

Tonight I want to practise seriously with the squared bottoms and tops and the basic drills.

Hope you can guide me along the way of learning copperplate :)

Good luck!! I like the Brause Steno - it can take a lot of abuse and can work on rough paper :-)

Wow.  I think your "doodles" show that if you practice, it won't be long before you will become accomplished at copperplate.   For a beginner, you seem to have a head start.  How lovely!

Thank you, I will try it out in the future. Can't wait 'till my book arrives next week!

You're off to a great start, Linda! Concentrate more on matching the forms in your exemplar to begin with and don't worry too much about the square tops and bottoms. Those will come with time. By all means practice them, but don't make them the major focus of your practice sessions.

Yes, in my other post I started doing the drills. What do you think of those?
