Composing A Life: A Journal Box

This class has been brewing in my head for several years now and I can't wait to share it with you! In this 6-hour workshop, you will learn skills in box making, book making, collage, assemblage, art journaling, self expression, composition, design, and much, much more. We will begin by creating a book box covered in papers that are chosen by you (and provided by me.) Next up is creating a variety of books that fit into the box. Learn a variety of simple but fun construction and bookbinding techniques. After the work is done, we will switch gears and begin to fill our pages. You will learn a plethora of mixed media techniques including but not limited to collage, color, composition, design, pen work, layering and much, much more. I strive to make each of the techniques that I present in my classes different than other classes and you will love what you create in this workshop! You will walk out of class with a finished box, all of your books assembled, several pages richly layered in your own unique style learning the techniques and ideas demonstrated in the workshop. You will love what you create and all of the new possibilities that will be presented and shared in class.
Love Your Lettering: A Little Book of Type

One of the things that I hear repeatedly in my classes is how many people hate their own handwriting. At one time, I was one of those people. After many years of being told by teachers and friends that my handwriting was atrocious, I'm now being complimented on my writing. I've never taken a calligraphy class. It all comes from experimenting in my journal. I will teach you everything that I know so that you'll walk out loving your handwriting. You'll also be walking out with a little book full of layers of color and text created by YOU. We will be getting messy with acrylics in this class, so please dress accordingly.
Visual Poetry

In this unique all day workshop, you will create a lavishly layered book full of color, paper, text, paint, stencils and everything with which we can get our hands dirty with. We'll combine all new layers of collage, color, text and images onto the pages. We'll learn how to push, pull and rework the pages, digging deep and discovering new visual delights on each and every page. This is the class you have been waiting for. We will be getting messy with acrylics in this class, so please dress accordingly.
Pieces of Me: Self Expression with Collage

What do you get when you combine paper, pens, stencils, stickers, and stamps with new techniques in composition, design, color and means of self expression together on the page? You get truly unique and personal pages of art. Learn techniques that are applicable to ANY art form. Yes, we'll be "painting with paper" (collage) but learning art techniques that can be used and adapted to whatever art you want to work on. You will learn several new techniques in using collage as a means of self expression.
Layers of Me: A Lesson in Unraveling

Small bits of paper and the boxes that contain them have always fascinated me. In this special 6-hour workshop you will create your own treasure: a deck of cards completely unique to you and a sturdy box to keep them in. We'll be learning a wide variety of techniques in this class including (but not limited to) art journaling, self expression, collage, composition, design, pen work, and much, much more.
*Students in Layers of Me have the option of making (along with their box) either a deck of cards or a small paper book. When you sign up, please let me know which you would prefer to make: a deck of cards or a small book.
