Tools & Supplies / Re: Archival Ink for Digital Printing?
« on: January 11, 2014, 08:45:23 AM »
Thanks Linda. I will have to look for those here. It's becoming so expensive looking for professional print shops here in the Philippines so I'm seriously considering just printing my own work.

Rhodia dot pads for practice! :)

In the Philippines, I buy Bevania white paper for drafts.

Thanks, Lori! I assume you use the archival inks that they have? Are there any other models that I can use archival inks with?

Thanks for this Linda. I particularly liked Antiquaria, when I was having a hard time with capitals. They have video tutorials now too, so awesome. Haven't heard of Emilie Friday so will def check her site out.

Same as Erica, I love the drawers, Ellen! Wish these were available in Manila.

Nora, that's a very smart idea to put light under the table! saves space!

Hi Louise! Welcome to the forum! I miss going to Australia. Having visited other countries when I was a flight attendant, Australia would be the country I would want to live in!

Tools & Supplies / Archival Ink for Digital Printing?
« on: January 02, 2014, 04:55:04 AM »
Hi everyone. I've started to get some digital (with and without calligraphy) artworks ready for printing into wall art (8x10in max) lately, and just last week I printed one out from a Kodak shop. I blankly chose a matte finish and framed it, sold it to a friend.

The following day I realized I had not taken into consideration how long the print will last. I immediately Googled archival papers, printers and archival inks (HP Vivera and Epson Ultrachrome). I'm quite lost on which printers you can use these types of inks, and if at all affordable for a small home business.  Do you have recommendation for these?

Another angle I am looking at is--am I stressing too much about it? How do you print your digitized work for display? I think I have read that some use InkJet printers--will it not fade in, say, 10 years? I'm only concerned because I wouldn't want someone throw my work back at me after 3 years and complain that it faded--> money lost.

I can't remember how long ago I last printed on photo paper so I can't remember how long these prints last. Thanks for input!

Wow. When I saw the calligraphy I thought it looked perfect. I admire the expertise that some people have, and how they can point out these details that amateurs don't notice. I have no problem with anyone making suggestions and feel like I'm my own worst critic at times...

But I do agree that sometimes it takes a day or two to appreciate your own work. I actually find my calligraphy better when it's already a photo! (thank you smartphone) Haha!

Linda, I can't believe you'd even feel like that the slightest bit!  :o Your works are gorgeous!

Daisy, I'm with you. My friends tell me I'm getting better too, but I feel like I'm stuck.

Well, like I once read (I think on Bailey Amon's) that calligraphy requires practice. Tons of it.

I would have thought the light box/lightpads of most calligraphers would be one of the mainstays on their desks. So do you ladies just pull out this lightbox only when you need to do some tracing?

Thank you for posting! I've browsed through craft room photos on Pinterest and most of them I see with white or monotone color scheme too. I guess it helps declutter the view,  expecting a lot of this and that all over. I am envious of the space and shelving that you both have!
