Introductions / Granddaughter of the Forum....LOL
« on: April 12, 2016, 05:38:42 PM »
So I've been a member of this forum since pretty close to the beginning I believe. Many of you don't know me because I've been MIA for about a year I think.  I'm here, but just don't comment a lot.  Anyway my first granddaughter was born this morning.  She's also my first Grandchild. She was born this morning,  her name is  Zyah Nichol and she was 8lbs 1 Oz and 21 inches long.  I'm so proud of my daughter and this beautiful baby that I just want to show everyone...  So sorry to break the calligraphy discussion for a min to show a picture of my pride and joy.  She's pure goodness

Hi everyone - I just wanted to share a new find of mine. I'm a huge fan of the Spectralite Acrylic golds. I ordered this white last week thinking it would have shimmer. I was disappointed at first because it doesn't. But as I started using it I really like the white and it's a waterproof alternative to bleed proof white.

I'm very curious about this. I have my own very strong opinion about it. But I really want to hear what the senior members of this forum have to say. I will say that I consider Paul Antonio and Barbara Calzoolari master calligraphers along with our iampeth members. Your thoughts?

Open Flourish | General Discussion / Tattoo lettering
« on: February 05, 2015, 10:55:39 AM »
i wanted to share my first ever lettering tattoo that I designed for my son Brandon. I can't describe the honor and emotional I feel knowing that my lettering is walking around on my son and will be there long after I'm gone. The tattoo artist who did this really captured the thick and thins. Anyway I'm over the moon about this and wanted to share with all of you

Show & Tell / Wanted to share my first completed commission piece
« on: October 24, 2014, 06:30:05 PM »
Hi everyone - so a friend commissioned me to calligraph a poem. She wanted 2,  One for her and one for her mother in law. She she gave me creative control to play with layouts etc.  so the final cut is pictured. I did three plus a small banner to go under his picture. The client still has to have these matted and framed with his picture.

Anyway I wanted to share with you my first completed commission job. I'm very proud of this. Of course I'm a perfectionist and im already thinking I'll calligraph another one in a year so she will have my best lettering. Lol I'm sure some of you can relate. I learned so much with this project. It was a great experience.

Off to have some wine to celebrate Friday and the completion of a successful project 😊

For the last three days I haven't really wanted to write. I have tried several times to sit down and practice but I write a few words and get up. I'm just not into it. Has this happened to anyone else? I still dream of calligraphy every night and think of beautiful letters and gold ink but I
When it comes to writing I just can't. Am I alone?

Open Flourish | General Discussion / Help
« on: July 21, 2014, 01:59:53 AM »
I posted this on Instagram and wanted to also post it here. I've attached a picture. A 5 year old boy with a inoperable brain tumor has a birthday on July 25th. His only wish is to get a mailbox full of birthday cards. I thought hey this is right up our ally. So let's give this boy what he wants.

Show & Tell / my attempt at italic before pointed pen
« on: July 07, 2014, 02:37:28 PM »
Just thought I would share. Not sure if ill ever go back because i love pointed pen so much

Is it just me or is it a transition for everyone when writing on different paper? I exclusively write on Rhodia pads. I love the paper. It's heavy, doesn't bleed etc etc.  but when I change papers it feels like I'm writing for the first time. My writing is wonky. Anyone else?

Show & Tell / I thought this was fitting for all of us
« on: June 03, 2014, 10:50:27 PM »
I love this quote and it certainly applies to pointed pen calligraphy. Practice is the name of the game. All of us are working on something to improve our skill. Once we improve our a then we work at perfecting the b. In every area of your life there is no such thing as multi-tasking because you can really only do one thing at a time well. Hope you like the quote and of course I'm always willing to hear how I can improve :-)

So like a dummy I posted my idea of my logo for a future business I hope to have someday on Instagram. I'm a little embarrassed because I knew better but thought maybe I was being over cautious. Well yesterday I was scrolling through Instagram while with my family and saw a post of someone's new logo that looks just like mine. Of course the name was different. Also it was no one from this forum. I looked at my daughter (because she knows I've been working on it) and showed her the post and without me saying a word she said "that looks a lot like your logo" as we we talking she said well mom, you can take it as a compliment that this person liked what you did and copied it. And I do take it that way. However, I also take it as a lesson learned. That if you want or are creating something that you don't want copied, then don't post it to the world. I share this embarrassing experience because many of you are very new and can learn from my mistake.

Anyway thanks for listening

Open Flourish | General Discussion / Zillers Glossy Black
« on: May 23, 2014, 10:53:51 AM »
Okay so I love Zillers white and so I ordered last week Zillers glossy black. The black is beautiful but it's very difficult to get it to write. It seems to clump up on the nib making it almost impossible to flourish. Any suggestions?
