Salman,
Thank you for the spacing explanation. I want to practice some of the letters while thinking about those details. I will work on the descender loops and make the other corrections you mentioned as well. I look forward to Exercise 4!

Salman,

I wanted to give you an update on my work. I am trying to work on the corrections you gave from last week and would like to know if you notice any change. Some questions I have: How can I join the upstrokes to the downstrokes without the bleeding of ink (c-h, or within a letter h, n, g)? Should my spacing within a single letter (a, g, h or n) be the same as the spacing between letters such dice)?

This is proving to be great study and practice for me. Although I am struggling with several details: the hairlines--their shape, start and finish; width of m's and n's; consistent weight on downstrokes; proportion of weight on main downstrokes vs secondary downstrokes. (hoping my terminology is correct) This week my letter slant suffered. The wider spacing on this guideline sheet forced me to widen my view.

I've worked through each letter and completed one line each of 'till, wit.' There is much work to be done on each. Still struggling with nibs and ink! Trying out several nibs, but not happy with any particular one. (No idea how to rotate these images, sorry.)

Many thanks. I have written many i's but never 5 together and never a whole page. It was a good lesson. I will work on the other letters in this lesson tomorrow and maybe get at least 3 correct in a series of 5.

My first attempt with i's using Moon Palace blk ink and Zebra G nib on hp paper. I have tried many inks, nibs, and papers but my results all look about the same to my untrained eye. I am a lefty using a straight pen holder.

My calligraphy journey began mid April 2016. I'm still very much a newbie struggling with the basics. My instructors have been social media, YouTube, blogs, and books. Thank you for the opportunity to learn from your experience.

Super excited to have the opportunity to connect with others interested in calligraphy. I'm an on again off again empty nester (giggle giggle). I was interested in calligraphy 15 - 20 years ago enough to purchase a book, but never began my study. Now that more of my time is my own I am able to begin. Absolutely love the practice (I'm a rule freak!) and can't wait until my skills are at a higher level to put to use. I don't have forum experience so it seems I am a true newbie!
