Coffee & Nib-bles / Tumblr Blogs
« on: May 13, 2015, 06:01:31 AM »
Most of us know each other from instagram! Though, I find myself going back to Tumblr every once in a while to reblog relevant posts. Recently, I made a new tumblr blog and Im planning to fill it with original posts. No more reblogs. -- Also, Im planning to keep the posts strictly for Tumblr and not just reposts from my IG account.

Care to follow and share yours? :) Here's mine: http://lettersandpapercranes.tumblr.com/

I know that Ate Natascha already started a thread in the General Discussions Area about drills so I hope this thread doesn't clash with it since it's a little similar.  ;)

What are the best copperplate drills? And what does it improve based on your experience? Im trying to figure out what to do to improve my wobbly upstrokes and flourish cross bars  :'(

So far this is what I've been doing. The one's from Achi Erica improved my control with the straight downstroke (especially for the copperplate lowercase "p"). It gave me control with flexible nibs, so I improved the consistency of my "thicks". The swirls are a little hard for me. Hence, failed upstrokes.

Coffee & Nib-bles / The "What's Up" Thread
« on: August 02, 2014, 09:27:39 AM »
Since most of us are just instagram friends and we have no other way of updating each other of what's new or what's happening (I'm sure most of us would like to know. With such a loving community!), Im hoping this could be the solution to keep in touch! This will be like our TWITTER inside FLOURISH :)

So basically, what's up? :)

Tools & Supplies / G NIBS
« on: June 21, 2014, 02:53:35 PM »
Out of curiosity! Thought about starting this thread because I fell in love with my Leonardt G for the last few days because of the summer exchange and I used it with McCaffery's Ink. Now half of the nib is slowly dying. And I only have 1. Boo. -- All along I though I was using the Zebra G. Since I have 3, I didn't mind the color change at first. Didn't know it was my one and only Leonardt. Oh well   :'(;D)

Since there are a lot of G nibs out there (Leonardt, Nikko, Zebra, Tachikawa, etc.) -- How do they really differ? Is it really recognizable? And which one would you prefer hoarding? :) I hope you guys would share examples and experiences when you have the time! :)

Kind Critique / First Long One
« on: June 18, 2014, 02:53:01 AM »
It's not really long compare to what most of you guys can do  :-\ But it's a start?

I already posted this on instagram last night but I would love if the flourish forum family would also have a say. I would like to ask for a kind critique. It's the first time I did something more than a word/phrase. I'm also loving the Winsor and Newton ink but it seems like I'm wasting most of it because I have to make a few strokes before I actually write with it so that it won't be that thick (is this why some add water?)

Anyway, here it goes. Copperplate, all the way. (With just little flourishing because I don't really know how to just yet without ruining it.)

Coffee & Nib-bles / Delivery Time
« on: June 10, 2014, 08:36:10 AM »
Hi flourish forum ates and kuyas!

If you guys don't mind me asking how long does it usually take for your packages/letters to arrive? (Where are you from too?)  :) This is out of curiosity because I'm from the Philippines and I ordered supplies from paper and ink arts, and they said that It'll approximately take 2 months for it to get here. Bummer  :P

Letters usually take forever but if I'm the one sending.. it's still 2 weeks at most to get to the recipient. Makes me think a lot. Haha! Hope you guys would share your own experiences!

Kind Critique / First Attempt: Digitize
« on: May 26, 2014, 10:10:57 AM »
This is my very first attempt. Any suggestions on how to make them smoother? :) Or how to play with it a little more? This is just a trial so I'd actually appreciate your comments and suggestions! Btw, thank you for the wonderful video tutorial Achi Erica!  :)

Coffee & Nib-bles / A Sharing: I use the word "Ate" a lot
« on: May 20, 2014, 09:22:47 AM »
Hi guys. So I would like to share something from our culture here in the Philippines since I can't help but use it a lot. I use the word ate (aht-eh) to address most of you (girls) all of the time. I'm really sorry but I can't help but use it. For those who doesn't know, in the Philippine kinship, "Ate" is a translation for "Big Sister". We use it as a sign of respect. I'm not very comfortable calling older people by just their names. Even if they're just few years older (I'm 21 years old hihi). It's just being polite. Plus, it kinda makes me feel closer to you guys.  ::) :-*

For those who have chinese blood (My father side is half chinese, I think. Lol), maybe I can also find some achi ("big sis" in chinese) and shobe ("lil sis" in chinese) around the forum!   ::) ;D

So I hope it's okay if I use it? :)

What song is currently stuck in your head?  ::) Care to share? Maybe share your favorite line too (it can be in calligraphy if you want lol)! Let's see who has the same taste in music!  :-* ;D

Tools & Supplies / Noodler's Ink
« on: May 12, 2014, 10:43:38 AM »
Hi everyone!
(New here, not sure if this topic goes here. But I hope it does.)

I recently bought my own bottle of Noodler's ink in a store called Scribe here in the Philippines because I heard a lot about the great reviews. Nevertheless, I got so disappointed with it. It feathers like crazy. And it bleeds on a 100 GSM paper. Did I get the wrong one? Something's telling me that the lady gave me a fountain pen ink instead (I heard those are supposed to be watery). Any assumptions? Or do you have suggestions on what I can mix with the ink? I don't want it to go to waste because it's around 17 USD :(

Introductions / Hello there! I'm Sienne :)
« on: May 12, 2014, 04:45:26 AM »
Hi! My name is Sienne (Si-yen/ Shen).

Learned about this forum through my big sisters/mentors from La Bella Scrittura Philippines. I'm new at calligraphy. Trying to practice and practice until I get better. I'm 21 years old and I'm a graduating student of BS Biology in a campus here in Manila, PH :) I love artsy/craftsy stuff. It is something that relaxes me and pulls me away from the very serious world of Science  :P

INKCATCHER is a project. It started with the word catch but then I slowly gained interest in calligraphy and hoarding materials so i added the word ink. I'm actually planning to create my own watercolor themed planners for 2015 and hopefully I can incorporate calligraphy into this project.

Joined to learn more and share what I've already learned from my mentors! :) Also hoping to make lots of new friends!
